Note: The lyrics may seem nihilistic, but the opposite is actually my intention. There are so many people that are suffering and hurting on so many levels that I believe some desperately contemplate getting out of this lifetime, thinking that a return voyage may offer better prospects in another life. I'm tapping into depression and the struggle and pain that people feel, but condoning creating a better life now, not checking out or hurting yourself. The other main thread I'm tapping into is the idea that some people believe their way, their religion and beliefs are better than others; as in their belief is non-fiction, and other's are fiction. There are well-intentioned folks actually "banging on my door, telling me what heavens for" trying to convince me of their truth. Curiously enough, the Greek word for heaven is "Ouranos" which literally means "expansion". I'm also referring to "noise" here as all the senseless chatter of the monkey mind, the distractions from an honest personal journey to connect with yourself through a higher power, whether you call it God, Nature, Holy Spirit, Divine Intelligence, intuition or that which escapes description via language. Promises of Fiction is really a self-plea for desiring the strength and courage to do the work needed to see through illusion, and root behavior in optimism. Shakespear may have said it best in Hamlet " This above all: to thine own self be true, and it must follow, as the night the day, Thou cans't not then be false to any man".
