Sometimes life can be profoundly challenging; it can slide out of the darkness with a one-two punch, or it can wear you down deeply over time. I believe making music and visual art is a personal expression of one's interior, so this song slipped out through the cracks with the nightly chant "you can't have all my day, sad face". People I love are dying way too early, and suffering or witnessing the suffering of loved ones. I believe difficult days need nights that allow us some down-time outside of the challenges and loss, deserved moments to re-center, regenerate, and relax. Velvet Crush is also about slowing down and really looking at things carefully and mindfully, with a quest to see truth hiding beneath illusions. Lastly, the song revisits the theme of mortality in the line " What's that, what's that, is that my Momma callin' me, callin' me home" referring not only to my childhood, but also Mother Earth callin' me, and those who have recently made their transition back home. We also hope this one makes your hips shake a bit, but not like an old car shake! Sincere gratitude to visual artist & mentor Joshua Rose for the cover art, check him out on-line!
lyrics
Velvet Crush
No more ominous hush
Outside the waves of lust
Daisy chains of you and me
Outside of duality
To see beneath the illusion of things
To take the pain and make it sing …
No more ominous hush
Outside the waves of lust
Daisy chains of you and me
No more ominous hush…
Memento Mori, got no use for you
Still gettin’ wet in my dancin’ shoes
Yeah I used to lay with lady luck
But she no longer gives a fuck!
You can’t have all my day
You can’t have all my day
You can’t have all my day
Sad face sad face
Yeah I put rocks in my shoes
I’m gonna stumble on every rake I use
I’ll live in this body till I wear it out
Or you finally show up and pull me out,
Oh and the magic tricks of love
Oh and the magic tricks of love
What’s that what’s that
My Momma callin’ me …
What’s that What’s that
My Momma callin’ me, home
And the magic tricks of love
Give away to the just “shut up” from above
Dug me a hole so deep
uncovered a thing for you
Now I Stumble on the rake
& put rocks in my shoes
I’ll live this body till I wear it out
Or you finally show up and pull me out
You can’t have all my day
You can’t have all my day
You can’t have all my day
Sad face,
Can’t have all of my day
Can’t have all my day
You can’t have all of my day
Sad face sad face sad face!
